Callen-Lenz specialises in manned and unmanned aircraft operations and technology. Our business is rapidly expanding in one of the most exciting and technically challenging areas of aerospace: that of unmanned aviation.

As a part of our Graduate Programme you will have the opportunity to move between departments experiencing exposure to all areas of the business. Based on six modules on a rotation basis over a two year period, you will receive ongoing training and support to help further develop your skillset. This exciting role will place the right candidate at the forefront of unmanned air systems (drone) development in the UK. You will join our friendly team of software, aerospace and electronics engineers, aviation specialists and support staff in a small but rapidly growing company leading the way in this exciting field.

QUALIFICATIONS

An upper second-class (2:1) or above degree in a Science or Engineering subject. UK driving licence (desirable).

SKILLS

Essential

  • Strong IT Skills including the use of Microsoft Office
  • Drive and determination to learn and develop new skills
  • General interest in aviation
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Personal

  • Must be a British Citizen or must have an existing right to work in the UK
  • Ability to live near and work in Salisbury, Wiltshire UK
  • Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel
  • Good communicator
  • Excellent problem solving ability
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Attention to detail and continuous test and evaluation at all stages of programming
  • Enthusiasm for their work and self-motivated

RESPONSIBILITIES

Two-year rotation programme covering six modules

UAS Operations

  • Undertake training use of company systems to become a competent UAS operator
  • Safe conduct of operations & related technical tasks involved in daily UAS operations
  • Routine maintenance and repair of aircraft including avionics and electronic installations
  • Deployed operations
  • Internet research including checking meteorological reports

Product Design

  • Implement design changes
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for a wide range of products from small components to whole systems.
  • Contributing to the design of UAS platforms/ systems
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and evidence to support product development, qualification and test

Manufacturing Technology

  • Supporting manufacture of UAS airframes (e.g.  creating moulds, 3D printing, composites lay-up)
  • Integration of UAS systems (e.g. incorporation of powertrain, actuators, control systems, payloads) 
  • Safe operation of workshop tools and equipment 

IT Support

  • Administration of Help Desk to resolve IT-related issues 
  • Administration of passwords and licences
  • Maintain, update, modify and improve company websites
  • Manage telephone systems
  • Manage the purchase of hardware/software products
  • Ensure IT assets are maintained responsibly and maintain a record of assets

Project Management

  • Develop and manage allocated projects via project plans
  • Management of project risks and opportunities
  • Reporting project progress as required advising immediately if control tolerance levels are exceeded
  • Ensure projects remain within allocated budget

Bid/ Proposal Support

  • Support preparation of bids/proposals
  • Research Target companies (potential customers, partners and competitors 
  • Research and source quotes from suppliers (e.g. for equipment)

Perform other related duties as required
